The operations of the Center are guided by a dedicated group of volunteers.  The Board of Directors is responsible for oversight and operations of the Center and the Advisory Panel provides guidance to the Center's programs.  Without the support and expertise of these volunteers, the Center would not be able to fulfill its mission of providing education and advocacy for campus fire safety professionals.

Mike Halligan
President

Mike is the Associate Director of Environmental Health and Safety at the University of Utah, and the President of the Center for Campus Fire Safety. Click for Bio

Paul Martin
Vice President

Paul D. Martin is acting chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention with the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control where he served as a principle architect of New York State’s nationally acclaimed Campus Fire Safety Program.   Click for Bio

Tim Knisely
Secretary and Treasurer

Tim Knisely is the Senior Fire Inspector for the Centre Region Code Administration in State College, PA, a regional government agency responsible for the enforcement of fire and building codes. Click for Bio

Amy M. Hamel
Executive Director

Amy M. Hamel was appointed as Executive Director of the Center for Campus Fire Safety in September 2007. She is a career research and project specialist with a fire and life safety and fundraising/event planning background.

Mike Swain

Michael Swain is currently the Campus Fire Prevention Officer at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and has been working in Fire Prevention at the University for over 19 years. Click for Bio

Shawn Kauffman
Director

Shawn R. Kauffman is a Fire Inspector and Life Safety Education Coordinator for the Centre Region Code Administration in State College, PA. Click for Bio

Gail Minger
Director

In 1998 Gail Minger’s son, Michael, was killed in an arson fire at Murray State University where he was enrolled in the university’s program for students with learning disability. Click for Bio

Alan Sactor
Director

Alan Sactor is an Assistant Director with the University of Maryland Department of Environmental Safety and the University Fire Marshal. He manages a staff of 10 full and part time Deputy Fire Marshals, Fire Inspectors, and Fire Protection Engineers. Click for Bio

Randall Hormann
Director

Randall Hormann has been a fire fighter for the last 23 years. He spent 15 plus years in fire safety/public safety for larger division 1 schools in Ohio as well as years of consulting on student training programs and philosophy and campus fire safety. Click for Bio

Janet Maupin
Director

Janet Maupin is a Deputy Fire Marshal for the Champaign, IL Fire Department. She inspects university-owned buildings and delivers fire safety education to students and staff at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign campus. Click for Bio

ADVISORY COUNCIL

Independent of the Center’s sponsors, the Advisory Council provides valuable strategic vision and wisdom to the Board of Directors and the Center. The Council’s members are experts and leaders in corporations, industry and public service.

They have encompassed the Center’s core values and through their business knowledge, professional careers, contacts and personal beliefs and they work hard to champion the mission of the Center and fire safety in general.
