CCFS Campus Fire Data Collection
[CCFS Administration] [May 25, 2009 5:05 pm ] [Views 1019]
CCFS recently released a nationwide campus fire reporting program.
Funding for this project was received from the Department of Homeland Security to start collecting fire data for campuses across the country. To date, CCFS focused on creating the tools necessary to start collection of the data and at the same time look at the requirements the Department of Education would have as far as collecting data about fires that will be required under the Campus Fire Safety Right to Know Act. We invite colleges and universities to participate as well as fire departments that serve colleges and universities. Your participation in this program will help CCFS to better identify the problems campuses face related to fire on campus. From these statistics, CCFS will be able to create new training programs that will help you mitigate the risk of fire on your campus. All data is secure. Campus and local Fire Department users will have the ability to run reports and measure statistics for their specific locations. As time progresses, CCFS will also provide statistical reports that analyse nationwide data on campus related fire incidents, locations, fire protection systems, cause and origin, and much more. We'll be able to show nationwide data, analyse where problems are, and also find schools that are successfully solving problems and share their success stories with you. CCFS will also start using these statistics to help Fire Protection Engineers, Technical Code Committees, Local Fire Services, Fire Safety Educators, Legislators, Insurance and Industry representatives find creative new solutions to the issue of campus fire safety. This web-based program will start a more accurate and defined portrayal of fire as it affects colleges and universities in the United States. As there has yet to be a true study done on these numbers, CCFS has pioneered the effort with the support and expertise of several partners with a common mission of fire and life safety on campuses.
