Fatal Fire in Poughkeepsie

[CCFS Administrator]  [January 21, 2012 4:26 pm ]  [Views 106]

Fire in Poughkeepsie off-campus housing facility claims the life of local student.

January 21, 2012  … The fatal fire in Poughkeepsie, New Your broke out this morning around 1:30am in a single family home that was converted to off-campus housing.  The charred remains of the house at 112 Fairview Ave. have been bulldozed, hours after the house fire claimed at least one and possibly more lives.

Seven (7) students were in the home when the fire started, 4 escaped, 1 fatality is confirmed, and others are not yet confirmed.  Names and additional details have not yet been disclosed however we know one fatality was a student at Marist College.

The investigation is being led by Arlington’s Captain Bill Steinberg. As additional details become available, we will post them on our website.

CCFS has been documenting specific campus related fires since Year 2000.  Current and more detailed statistics, along with the definition of how we define “campus related fires” are always posted on the website, along with a host of fire safety resources and tips for fire safety professionals as well as students in both universities and off-campus housing.  One of the resources includes a daily and ongoing listing of other fire incidents in the higher education arena.
