Environmental Health and Safety Technician

Location: 
The Eastern Virginia Medical School

 * Assist in the day-to-day operations of the department

*        Accumulate, transport & manage hazardous wastes 
*        Collect, organize and disseminate Material Safety Data Sheets 
*        Evaluate safety equipment for proper function and compliance 
*        Monitor institutional compliance with various Federal, State and
local requirements 
*        Aid in developing and delivering training and education programs
for researchers and research support staff 
*        Proactively work with coworkers to help increase the level of
health & safety 
*        Respond to spills and other urgent needs


The EH&S Technician will work as part of a multi-disciplinary EH&S team
and reports to the Chemical & Environmental Safety Officer in the
Environmental Health & Safety department.

Location: Norfolk Virginia
 
Minimum Qualifications:

*        Bachelor of Science degree in a physical science or related
field 
*        Computer proficiency with current technology such as Microsoft
Office 
*        Effective communication skills including verbal presentation,
technical writing skills and attention to detail is required 
*        Ability to work as part of a team and independently on assigned
drudgery and offer excellent customer service skills


Preferred Qualifications: 

*        One to three years experience with environmental health & safety
programs that include hazardous waste, laboratory safety, material
safety data sheets and spill/emergency response 
*        OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPPER training
