The University of Kentucky is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of University Fire Marshal. The University of Kentucky is a comprehensive land grant university with medical, academic, research and service facilities. Primary responsibilities include developing, implementing, evaluating and managing fire prevention and life safety programs/policies. Ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and University policies. Performing inspections and managing associated programs in identifying fire/life safety deficiencies, maintenance and function of fire suppression systems. Issuing recommendations to the responsible administrative division/department for correction. Serving as University's representative on all KY State Fire Marshal inspections. Developing and maintaining comprehensive list of existing major fire prevention/life safety deficiencies. Tracking status of deficiencies and assisting in formulating requests for appropriate funding. Managing budget for the department; reports to Director of Environmental Health & Safety. Conducting and supervising staff in the review and approval of construction/renovation plans for projects in ensuring adherence to the Kentucky Building Code, University Standards, ADA, and life safety consensus standards. Interacting with KY Dept. of Housing, Building and Construction, KY State Fire Marshal, architects, and engineers in resolving code compliance issues. Developing and implementing emergency evacuation plans for facilities. Conducting fire drills and testing of building alarm, smoke removal, and emergency lighting systems. Serves as the University's Incident Commander and as primary liaison to the KY State Fire Marshal on all matters and incidents related to fire emergencies. Investigating fire alarms and fire incidents. Developing, implementing and maintaining emergency response plans and procedural agreements with external emergency response resources. Developing, implementing and evaluating fire prevention and emergency plans for special events. Minimum qualifications are a Bachelors Degree and six years of related experience or the equivalent. Bachelor's Degree in fire science, engineering, or related field, ten years experience in implementing fire prevention and life safety programs/policies, Kentucky Level III Certified Building Inspector or equivalent with experience in the review/enforcement of ICC or Kentucky State Fire and Building Codes are preferred. Must be able to resolve problems while maintaining positive team-oriented relationships. Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
